John Romano is the President and founder of Cyber Associates Training Seminars. In 2008 he co-founded the company with Special Agent Barry Stephens of the Virginia State Police (retired) after identifying a growing need for the training and education of law enforcement professionals on cyber-based crime and the use of online social media and the Internet in criminal investigations.
John Romano attended Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia where he received a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Criminal Justice in 1998. Romano began his law enforcement career with Lynchburg Police Department (Virginia) in 1998 as a police recruit. During 2003 Romano was promoted to Police Officer III within the Field Operations Division. In 2006 he was assigned as a Detective within the Criminal Investigations Division and specializes in cyber-based crime, cellular telecommunicaitons and digital forensics. In May of 2006 Romano received the Lynchburg Police Department’s Honorable Service Award for exceptional contributions to the citizens of Lynchburg in the development and implementation of a Police Officer Training Program. In 2007 Romano graduated from the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service National Cyber Crime Investigation Academy and he is also a graduate of session XIV of the University of Tennessee National Forensic Academy. During 2008 Romano assisted the Lynchburg Police Department with the initial development and implementation of a digital forensic laboratory for the recovery and examination of digital evidence in response to the departments need to streamline the investigative process and reduce existing backlogs.
John Romano has investigated a multitude of criminal cases involving cyber-based crime involving online social networks and the Internet during his career ranging from financial-based crimes to threats of physical violence and death investigations including popular websites such as Facebook, Myspace, Skype, Craig’s List, Yahoo!, Microsoft and eBay. Romano has taught a growing list of individuals, professionals, and organizations on cyber-based crime and the use of online social networks and the Internet in criminal investigation including the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Juvenile Services, United States Department of Justice, United States Department of Homeland Security, United States Probation and Parole, and various local and state law enforcement agencies. He has also taught Internet safety to various parent teacher organizations and community civic groups.
With a vision for the future Romano has expanded the role of the company by offering seminars to business professionals seeking the adaptation of online social media into their human resource management, while also recognizing the need for assistance in the development and implementation of online social media policies in the workplace. Cyber Associates Training Seminars also continues to offer Internet safety presentations to parents and organizations that are seeking an honest but realistic approach to educating themselves on the protection of one of our most valuable assets, our children and families.
